Let the Spending Begin

After mulling over various books and websites, I made the plunge and started ordering seeds. My first lot is vegetables mostly, with a few flowers thrown in for good measure. The order was $50, making it the first significant purchase that directly makes the garden grow.
My PlanGarden is coming along nicely. I have made some final decisions as to colors and locations of various elements. There are still a few things to be finalized, but that’ll have to wait until I research my berry plants a bit more and make the final order for them.

Online Garden Planning

For those out the re who are like me, you have to plan everything to the last detail before undertaking a project, no matter what the size. While searching for a decent software package for landscape design, I happened across a nifty website that uses a nifty flash applet to enable designing a garden in your browser. The website is called PlanGarden.com and my drawing can be seen here.

The Plan has a Shape

I had the day off of work today, so I took some time to create a drawing of my lot at 1/8″=1′ scale. Now it’s nice and big and easy to move stuff around on. I made some crude cutouts to represent the garden boxes, trees and flower beds for the mockup. I have to get some other color of paper to cutout the compost bins, various architecture features, patio stones and interlock bricks. This is just like being back in grade school doing cutout art ![]()
