My wife & I spent a few hours looking for seed starter materials yesterday. This time of year is not conducive to massive gardening displays so our selection was quite limited. We found vermiculite at Walmart, compost at Home Depot, but couldn’t find small bales of peat moss anywhere. Not to be swayed from our path, we went into the local Home Hardware store.
They had two piles of bags. One was a pile of premixed potting soil and the other pile was of premixed peat moss, vermiculite and compost, all nicely bagged in a manageable size ready to go.
I grabbed one bag of the starter mix and a nifty magnetic whiteboard/corkboard that they had on sale for $10 and we made our way home. I figured that I could do some visual thinking for the garden layouts on the white board and pin up schedules for chores on the cork. Kinda handy, eh!
Now I have to create a seedling schedule that will coincide with the forecasted final frost date, so that planting times will be staggered correctly.
